A self-taught artist, I began drawing animals, abstracts, botanical pieces and fantasy horses as a child. I did not pursue art on a dedicated basis until later in life, and transitioned from graphite to color pencil as my chosen medium. My favorite pieces to draw are filled with bright contrasting colors and intricate textures. I love seeing how far I can push dark and light tones to give a three dimensional effect to my botanicals. Lately I have been drawn to creating pieces from childhood memories, a cherished carousel steed, or beautiful and vibrant forget me nots I used to pick for my mother from the rock garden at my childhood home. I create my artwork on hot press watercolor paper or Bristol and use Faber Castell Polychromos, Prismacolor Premier and Caran Dache Museum Aquarelle colored pencils. Art is therapeutic and healing to me, I wish to help others discover the mindfulness and peace that can happen when creativity is incorporated into our lives.
